Oscar’s Best Dressed: Janelle Monae

Hey Lushers…its been a crazy week but I am back! Amazingly enough there is so much I could easily cover about the Oscars this past Sunday. The winner for Best Film mix up (s.o. to MoonLight!!), the wins, Chrissy Teigen napping during the ceremonies; but one thing stood out to my Fashionable mind. And that was the ever fabulous and talented Janelle Monae.

This award season she has had red carpet wins alone just with this amazing style. Her signature white and black continues to surprise us every time she hits the carpet, being funky, sexy and classy all at once, and believe me not many can pull off these elements. Ms. Monae hit the red carpet in an elaborate Elie Saab gown, intricate beading, haute couture at its finest. Some critics didn’t understand the creativity and the importance of not being understated here. She was apart of two major films both nominated in several categories and a major win with Moon Light, so no my friends she showed up and showed out!

Then comes the Vanity Fair Oscar’s after party where she did what I would call edgy-gown chic. The gown by Alexandre Vauthier had me gawking in the best way. (Fashion lovers understand this enthusiasm) The gown itself in all black organza, fish net embellished sleeves and mid section to a belted sash with funky gold studs and loops! Talk about creating another edgy yet classy look! She radiated and stole the show graciously. Isn’t being a creative what it’s all about, mixing it up, going against the norm and doing whats true to you? And believe me, critics definitely should take note because she surely DID THAT!
